A Successful Kickoff

Adopt-A-School Day Program Draws Education Head and KGMB Cameras
This past Saturday was the Kickoff Rally for the Jaycees Adopt-A-School Day at Ala Moana’s Centerstage. The event was chaired by RPJ’s own President Eve Epitome, emceed by VP Rebecca Soon with logo and program design by member Kate Weir. About 20 other jaycee members from various chapters volunteered at the event, which was attended by Hawaii State Department of Education Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto. There were live performances from the dancers of the Tekniqlingz Crew and 8-year-old singer Jonah Barsatan Lorica. Check out the video news coverage from KGMB and read on after the break.
After the performances, Hamamoto spoke about the Adopt-A-School Day program and a proclamation from the Governor’s Office was read by Honolulu Chinese Jaycees and Adopt-A-School Day committee member Krystal Lee. A banner presentation ceremony followed where representatives from the 30 groups and organizations who volunteered to adopt a school on October 11th received their volunteer banners, which will be put on display at their adopted schools. RPJ’s Executive Vice President Winston Chow and Director-at-Large Anthony Higa were on hand to receive the  chapter’s banner.
The rally moved from Centerstage to Pearl Ultralounge at around 7:00 pm, where jaycee members and group reps mingled and networked. There were free pupus from stuffed mushrooms to sliders.
