Hawaii Member Wins National Awards
Folks say big things can come in small packages, and fellow Hawaii Junior Chamber member Sarah Young (Honolulu Chinese Jaycees) proved it as she won the national Speak-Up and Write-Up competitions at the United States Junior Chamber’s 92nd Annual National Convention in Des Moines, Iowa. Sarah plans to compete next April in St. Louis, Missouri at Junior Chamber International’s Conference of the Americas.
RPJ’s Rebecca Soon was the last National Speak-Up winner from Hawaii. She won in 2009 and represented the United States at the Conference of the Americas in Puerto Rico. She won in Puerto Rico and placed second overall at the JCI World Congress held in Tunisia.
The U.S. Junior Chamber’s National Speak-Up Competition is an individual development competition designed to provide Junior Chamber members with the opportunity to develop their verbal communication skills. Hawaii members compete at the the state trimester conventions, and the winner of the Third Trimester (Year-End) Convention is eligible to compete at the U.S. Junior Chamber’s National Convention. Next year’s national convention will be held in Seattle, Washington.
